At the August Bank Holiday weekend we took our dairy-free ice cream to The Big Feastival, a celebration of food, music and fun dreamt up by Jamie Oliver and Alex James, and what an amazing time we had! The event took place on Alex’s farm in the beautiful Cotswolds, and was a fantastic mix of brilliant music (both established and up-and-coming bands), the most delicious street food (so many vegan options – yet another sign that this movement is going mainstream!), and fun activities for the whole family to enjoy. It had all the elements required of a great British summer festival: blazing sunshine, 53,000 happy punters, amazing food, fantastic live music, torrential rain and even a thunderstorm!! We had quite a party in our tent as people rushed in to shelter from the downpours on Saturday, and amazingly people were still queuing up to buy ice cream as the heavens opened – love it!
We could hardly keep up with demand for our ice cream, although we still found time to chat to some really lovely people. It’s extraordinary just how many children are dairy-free these days, so it was incredibly special to see their little faces light up when they realised that here was an ice cream they could actually have! For one little boy our Double Chocolate was his first experience of ice cream ever, and we only wish we could have filmed his delighted reaction on tasting it – it was priceless! We even had a visit from our fave celebrity chef Gennaro Contaldo (him off the telly!) who said it was the best ice cream ever – and who are we to argue with that?! 🙂
We all had such an amazing time, although in this pic it looks like it all got a bit much for our little helper – or maybe it was just the sun in her eyes!
What a truly fab weekend it was, and how heart-warming to hear all the wonderful feedback we received from the public. Starting a business is such hard work, and there will always be moments when you doubt yourself and wonder if it’s ever going to all come right, but hearing those kind words and watching the amazing reactions just made it all worthwhile!
If you were one of the thousands who came to see us, thank you for your support, it was so lovely to meet you. And in the words of big JO himself – Big Love, everyone, and thanks for being so loverly!!
